half-conviced lizzy told philip to take one for the team to get people’s attention away from the riots happening in northern ireland
though seriously, the riots in belfast are a symptom of british ignorance towards northern ireland and a facet of continued british colonialism. loyalists groups are calling for the withdrawal from the good friday agreement, which will severally impact the peace in northern ireland. and last night, the PSNI fired rounds and water canons at rioters, which are predominantly made up of teenagers and fuckin kids (and those they fired upon were springfield road, a nationalist community).
a rise in sectarian politics over the years between republican and loyalist groups have lead to this. this isn’t the fault of brexit, though the irish sea boarder may be a factor, but this is the fault of british ignorance towards those in northern ireland. it’s the fault of older people forcing and egging these kids on to continue a legacy of sectarian violence. it’s the continued, vitriolic legacy of british colonialism in northern ireland.
My sister, who I live with, thought she couldn’t get the vaccine because she doesn’t have insurance.
We’re not really used to “free”…. spread the word.
Okay, this does warrant further examination.
If it’s only free with insurance then it’s not free. What about people who are unemployed? What the fuck??? What about unhoused people, most of which don’t have jobs (most, not all, fun fact: there are people making minimum wage and living in shelters)???
Okay sorry for the back and forth. This is on the CDC website. THE VACCINE IS FREE REGARDLESS OF INSURANCE STATUS
also if you don’t have a social security number and they ask you for one when you sign up (some forms do?), just put all zeroes to continue. i guess this was tripping up some folks so i saw that tip on twitter.
i found the zeroes trick works for other stuff in the sign up process - i don’t have a “group plan” number on my MassHealth but just dumping zeroes in let me continue on the CVS website when they said it was a required field.
“if no art makes you feel anything, make your own art and feel something” is too raw of a line to have come from a jenna marbles video of her painting a rainbow/polka dot seahorse saying “it’s seahorse time” on a denim jacket
[id: a gif of jenna marbles, a woman with light skin and blonde hair in a bun, turning around and showing the back of her denim jacket—which, as the post says, has a rainbow seahorse saying “it’s seahorse time!” painted on.]
This used to be called “Auto Shop” and “Home Economics,” subjects which were included in nearly every high school curriculum up until the 1980s. Auto maintenance, budget management, sewing skills, cooking, and other basic Adulting skills were actually taught in classroom settings. But suddenly all that money got funneled away to sports and graduation requirements shifted toward standardized tests because those were somehow more? important? than life skills? and the home ec and shop classes were no longer taught, even as electives. We’ve been steadily losing arts classes for similar reasons.
And so students leave school with a thorough grounding in football and calculus, but having no idea how to sew on a button or change a tire.
Petition to bring back these classes in every single middle and high school in the country.
